Ellie in the schoolyard

This picture is of Ellie in the Dinthi schoolyard riding her bike. In the background you can see her schoolhouse which is a mud building covered with a straw roof.

Old Dinthi Schoolhouse

When I first arrived in Dinthi in early-2000 the building in the picture, which I first assumed was a goat shed, was the only school building. A new building similar to this one was built which Eleanor attended during several months in 2005. There is now a large three room schoolhouse made of bricks with a tin roof that our family was able to help provide funding for.

Simba

She's the old lady of the family. Simba means lion in quite a lot of African languages. We thought she was going to have puppies but nothing happened.

Chaka

Named after the South African Zulu warror. He's kind of a chicken but he's a good watchdog.
